David Hewlett
David Hewlett went to high school with director Vincenzo Natali and has appeared in three of his films. Had worked with Andrew Miller and suggested him to Natali for Cube (1997).
I'd often find myself flipping around the channels and suddenly go, "Oh, cool! What's that? Oh, Stargate! Cool!" And then you end up watching the show because of -- because you've just seen something, some huge vessel explode, and you're flying through space or something. That's the geek side of me, definitely catches that every time.

Canadian writer, director and actor David Hewlett achieved cult status with his role in science fiction indie film Cube. He became famous in Canada as socially awkward investment banker Grant Jansky on the hit TV series Traders, and achieved worldwide notice as the irascible Dr. Rodney McKay on Stargate Atlantis. He has also written, directed and starred as Patrick in A Dog's Breakfast.

David Hewlett has said in many interviews that he was a huge fan of Doctor Who growing up, and has also said that to play the Doctor would be his dream role. He supplemented his earnings from acting in the 1990s by working as a web designer.

Hewlett's real-life sister Kate Hewlett, also an actress, has played Dr. McKay's sister Jeannie Miller in Stargate Atlantis, and Patrick's sister Marilyn in A Dog's Breakfast. Hewlett has said in interviews that he asked writers on Atlantis to change a line of McKay's in one episode from "I have a brother" to "I have a sister" so, on the off chance McKay's sibling actually appeared, they could cast his real-life sister.
Originally appeared as Dr. Rodney McKay', a one-off guest star in "Stargate SG-1" (1997) episode "48 Hours" . He was then invited back for the Season Six premiere "Redemption, Parts 1 & 2" the following season. However, he returned to the "Stargate franchise" as McKay, only this time, he was a series lead in the smash hit, "Stargate: Atlantis" (2004).

Older brother of Kate Hewlett.

He is a big fan of "Doctor Who" (1963). His favourite Doctor was Tom Baker.
